Commission Strategic Priorities
Commission priorities are defined as high-level objectives established by the Commission to direct its decision-making, policy development, and operational planning in alignment with the ordinance mandates and community needs.
When selecting priorities for the year, the Commission focused on work that meets the following criteria:
- Reflects the responsibilities of the Commission under the ordinance
- Addresses current and anticipated challenges in public safety and accountability
- Guides resource allocation and performance measurement
- Supports collaboration with stakeholders and partners
- Ensures accountability and transparency in its processes
Priorities can be addressed in multiple ways, including through the agency goal setting and policy making process, CPD budget recommendations, community education and engagement, research, and city council recommendations and OIG requests.
Methodology for 2026 Strategic Plan
The Commission utilized the following inputs to direct the strategic planning and identify the seven priority areas.
- Commissioner priorities and recommendations that were made during the onboarding process and through work groups
- Priorities proposed by District Councilors
- Ordinance Requirements
- Priorities identified by the community at meetings or through focus groups
- Trends identified by staff through research and work groups
- Meetings with Subject Matter Experts
- Consent decree requirements
- Independent Monitoring Team (IMT) Comprehensive assessment
