COMMUNITY COMMISSION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY AND ACCOUNTABILITY (CCPSA)
ANNOUNCES FIVE COMMUNITY LISTENING SESSIONS TO HELP SHAPE SEARCH FOR
CHICAGO’S NEXT SUPERINTENDENT
CHICAGO, IL- The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA)
today announced five community listening sessions across Chicago as part of its
nationwide search for the next Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department.
The listening sessions will provide residents with an opportunity to share leadership
qualities, priorities, and vision they believe are essential in Chicago’s next Superintendent.
Feedback gathered during these sessions will help inform the Commission’s search and
evaluation of candidates before it submits three finalists to the Mayor for consideration later
this fall, as required by ordinance.
The CCPSA ordinance requires the Commission to conduct a robust community
engagement process as part of the Superintendent search, including holding at least one
public hearing on the North Side, one on the South Side, and one on the West Side. The five
listening sessions announced today exceed those minimum requirements and are intended
to make it easier for residents across the city to participate in one of the most consequential
public safety decisions facing Chicago.
“Nobody knows this city better than the people that live here. That’s why we’re taking this
search into communities across Chicago. We want to hear what residents value in a
leader, what challenges they want addressed, and what they expect from the next
Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department. Those conversations will help shape
the Commission’s search and ultimately strengthen the recommendations we make to the
Mayor,” said CCPSA President Remel Terry.
