Nominating Committee Opens Applications for West Side Attorney Vacancy on the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability Following the Resignation of Kelly Presley

Date:

October 7, 2024

CHICAGO- The District Council Nominating Committee is now accepting applications from experienced attorneys residing on Chicago’s West Side to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA).

This vacancy follows the resignation of Commissioner Kelly Presley, effective on October 31, 2024. Commissioner Presley, appointed on June 21, 2024, to a four-year term, is stepping down due to her relocation out of Chicago. During her tenure, Commissioner Presley fulfilled two key legal requirements for the Commission: meeting the requirement of having a minimum of ten years as a practicing attorney, with significant experience in civil rights, civil liberties, or criminal law; and representing the West Side of Chicago, as mandated by the Commission’s geographic residency requirements.

“Commissioner Presley’s contributions to increasing public safety and police accountability has been invaluable. While we are saddened by her early departure, we are eager to find new leadership that shares her passion for this pivotal work,” said Angelica Green, 25th District Councilor. “Having already conducted a successful nomination process that resulted in the appointments of Commissioners Anthony Driver Jr., Aaron Gottlieb, Abierre Minor, Angel Rubi Navarijo, Remel Terry, and Sandra Wortham, we are confident that our selection process will identify passionate and qualified candidates to continue the vital role she leaves behind.

”The Nominating Committee will accept applications for thirty days, with the application period closing on November 6, 2024. After the deadline, the Committee will thoroughly review all submissions, conduct interviews with selected finalists, and nominate at least two individuals for the vacancy on the Commission. Once nominated, the Mayor will select one individual to serve on the Commission from those nominated by the Committee.
